Fancy taking part in one of Scotland’s best one-day endurance challenges to support Mercy Corps?

The Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon is an exhilarating combination of swimming, running/trekking, kayaking and cycling. For 14 years Mercy Corps has been the main beneficiary charity of this challenge, with over £1.1 million raised for our work. ‘The Quad’ (as it is lovingly referred to, perhaps because it’s easier to say than the full name whilst bagging your seventh Munro) returns on 6th July 2019, and this year's event is set to be the best yet!

It all takes place in the beautiful Scottish Highlands around Loch Tay, with three different route options from which to choose. We’d love to invite you, your friends and family to give it a go! What better way to support Mercy Corps than setting yourself a personal fitness challenge (and perhaps ticking off a travel goal too) for 2019?

The Routes

  • The Gold Route starts at Ardtalnaig shore on the South side of Loch Tay where you take the plunge and swim 0.8 miles, walk/run 15 miles over seven Munros in the Ben Lawers range, then kayak seven miles from Milton of Morenish back to Ardtalnaig, before jumping on your bike and cycling 34 miles around Loch Tay.

  • The Silver Route features six Munros rather than seven, skipping about four miles and 2000 feet of ascent.

  • The Bronze route starts on the North side of Loch Tay, rather than at Kindrochit (Ardtalnaig). There is no swim, and the hill section covers just five Munros. That saves you about five miles and 2400 feet of ascent!
  • Who can take part?

The Quad is an event for those who relish the challenge of a one-day endurance test. It is designed to be accessible to people of all athletic abilities, from experienced competitiors to those looking to improve their fitness. It must be completed in teams of two, or as a relay team of between three and eight people. Find out more about team requirements here.

Our Senior Director Michael McKean and HR Director Cameron Hall are taking part - you can read their story and follow their training progress on their blog.

What impact does the Quad have?

The Quad is a charity event. It is not only an opportunity for you to challenge and push yourself, but also to raise money for the event charities, Mercy Corps and Mary’s Meals. A substantial amount is contributed by The Artemis Charitable Foundation towards running the event, so that all funds raised go directly to the chosen charities.

In addition to the registration fee, each team member pledges to raise a minimum of £450 (in a team of two aiming for the Gold or Silver routes) or £250 (in a relay team doing any distance, or a team of two doing the Bronze route) in sponsorship for the elected organisations.

Over the last 39 years, Mercy Corps has provided £4 billion in lifesaving assistance to more than 220 million people around the world. All of this could not of have been done without the support from people like you.
