Provash Budden, Regional Director, Americas

Provash Budden

Provash Budden has over two decades of experience responding to emergency humanitarian needs and looking for long-term solutions to development challenges around the world.

At Mercy Corps, Provash is based in Bogotá, Colombia and serves as the regional director for the Americas, leading programmes across the region that improve land rights, financial services, access to education, economic development, violence prevention and support to displaced communities affected by crisis. Having joined the organisation in 2008, his tenure has also included work in Honduras, China, Gaza and Sudan.

Provash appreciates that Mercy Corps challenges him to be creative and innovative in his approach to relief and development, because addressing lifesaving needs resulting from disaster and conflict is rewarding, but resolving systemic issues that prevent people from achieving their full potential is transformational.

He came to Mercy Corps after 10 years working with Catholic Relief Services on emergency response and development in Latin America, the Middle East, southern Asia and Southeast Asia, including post-tsunami work in Indonesia. He completed his graduate degree in economic and political development at Columbia University, with a technical focus on microfinance.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Provash returns to Portland when he can to ski and visit his parents. At home in Bogotá, he has a 7-year-old son who keeps him busy with piano, guitar, skateboarding and swimming but, when not working, Provash also likes to read, bike and explore the region. His family also enjoys spending time in Spain, where his wife is from.
