Right now the situation remains critical for the 400,000 people displaced by ethnic clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan. I am asking for your support to help those who are in critical need.

As a Peace Corps Volunteer in Andijon, I witnessed firsthand Mercy Corps' work along the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border. I saw their dedication to helping the people and to fostering lasting change within the local communities. Mercy Corps is one of the only global relief agencies operating in the region. It started what is now the second-largest bank in Kyrgyzstan -- a microfinance company dedicated to community development -- and has a track record of supporting people from relief to recovery around the world.

Mercy Corps is delivering essential humanitarian items like bedding, medicine and baby food to families in need. It plans to help shopkeepers restock their shelves and families recover what they've lost. In the long term, they'll expand their successful kitchen gardens program to give families a safety net for future emergencies.
