OnPoint works to support Mercy Corps relief efforts in Haiti

March 2010

Members and Community -

At the beginning of February, OnPoint made a $10,000 donation to Mercy Corps to benefit Haitian relief efforts, and pledged to match an additional $5,000 of donations from OnPoint employees and our members. Less than a week later, we reached our goal, with total donations topping $20,000.

But that was just the beginning. Thanks to our employees and members, the donations didn’t stop once our goal was reached. The donations kept pouring in and, as of March 5th, a total of over $26,800 in donations had been made to Mercy Corps by OnPoint and our members.

With locally-based Mercy Corps’ 30 years of experience turning crisis into opportunity, we know that donations are having a meaningful impact for the people and communities of Haiti.

Thank you to everyone who joined with us to support relief efforts in Haiti!

Project summary

Just hours after a catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti — killing thousands and displacing up to two million people — Mercy Corps began deploying an experienced, field-tested emergency response team. Upon arriving in Port-au-Prince, we went immediately to work, talking with displaced survivors about what they needed most. We delivered 15 tons of food to the city's biggest hospital. We got clean water flowing again in medical clinics and shattered neighborhoods. We ensured a reliable income for survivors by creating a cash-for-work program, which also began revitalizing failing local economies. Today, our team is working with survivors, local authorities and partner organizations on long-term plans — including job creation — that will help Haiti rebuild better and stronger.
