Inspired youth at first Gaza Startup Weekend

Mercy Corps' Arab Developer Network Initiative, in partnership with Google, helped host the first ever Gaza Startup Weekend in December 2011, giving Palestinian youth the opportunity to develop and launch their web development ideas. In a region where so many educated youth are unable to find jobs — and are prevented from leaving in pursuit of employment — due to political uncertainty, the intensive three-day event brought in experts to advise competing teams on how to turn their concepts into viable income generating businesses.
