Adventurer Mark Beaumont to take on Mercy Corps challenge
May 15, 2012
Adventurer, author and record-breaking round the world cyclist Mark Beaumont has announced he's going to team up with one of our staff to take on Scotland's toughest endurance event this summer.
By tackling the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon, the pair will help raise funds and awareness for our work rehabilitating child soldiers in Colombia - alongside hundreds of others competing in the event and supporting our work.
Last week Mark spent time training for the event with organisers Wildfox Events, and said: "It's exciting, off the back of the big expeditions I've done in the last year, to come back and test myself on some of the challenges here on the banks of Loch Tay in Perthshire, pretty close to where I live in the heart of Scotland. I'm used to doing big solo expeditions - pedalling around the globe and the Americas - but to come back to my training ground and take on events like this, it's pretty exciting. Despite everything I've done, this is pretty new."
Mark will be doing the Quadrathlon with Mercy Corps Colombia staff member Brian Atkinson. Brian is coming to Scotland to take part in the event and thank participants for all their support for his team's work with children and young people affected by the conflict in Colombia.
Join Mark and take on the challenge of the Quadrathlon on July 14th - or volunteer to help out and cheer Mark on if you're not feeling quite up to an all-day endurance challenge - and find out more about how together we're helping former child soldiers in Colombia recover.
